Howdy. How’s 2018 coming along for you?
I know, it seems odd to start blogging after the holidays on a Friday, but this was done definitely with intention. Today is the 12th of January, but tomorrow actually marks the blog’s birthday. In 2014, I started a little blog called “A Little Bit Stronger” and a year later, the blog debuted as Ginger & Co. Crazy to think that Ginger & Co. has been a name I’ve used for three years now.
This blog has been something I’ve had with me all throughout my freaking twenties. I survived a mental breakdown right before this blog was born. It was with me as I survived two and a half years of my college career. During two rounds of unemployment, I wrote some pretty awesome content on career advice.
The blog has watched me develop a whole separate person on the internet and publish two books. It also survived six months in politics which saw me work on multiple websites and five Congressional campaigns.
My thyroid disease, something that I feel day after day and made me gain weight? The blog was here last year when I lost 30 of those pounds and it’ll be here for the other pounds I’ve lost.
There have been several hairstyles and lots of funny faces.
But now that I’m twenty-four and solidly in my mid-twenties, I feel like 2017 was a major change in my life. Instead of the bright colors that I’ve always loved, I’ve found new admiration for more muted colors – like gray and navy. After three years of teal, it felt like it was time for something new. Then I rebuilt the site and realized the teal works real well for all those “click me” buttons, so I guess teal is here to stay for a little while longer!
There’s a lot going on behind the scenes – I finally gave myself my own “about me” page. Back when I brought on the other contributors, they all had their own pages made – including spots where you can see what content they’ve written on the blog (like Laney’s page here). But I never took the time to give myself one until now.
I’m also going through and updating every single blog post on the blog – new images, checking links, adding affiliate links, etc. This year, I think I’ll be rewriting a lot of blog posts – new versions of popular posts – like how I rewrote my Social Writer posts and they became the “For Authors” posts. Four years is a long time to be on a blog or even on the internet, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Over the remainder of the month, I’ll be sharing my goals for 2018 – writing, reading, and everything in between. I’m excited for 2018 in a way that I wasn’t excited for 2017. I’m feeling hopeful in this new year, which is something absolutely incredible. Maybe I’m just feeling a tad bit fabulous.
