For the past three years, I’ve had one love when it comes to planners: the Day Designer. My first Day Designer was for the academic year in 2014-2015. I used a Blue Sky Day Designer for Target in the fall of 2015, then went back to the flagship one in January 2016. I had the Spotty Dots last year and this year I’m using the Blue Tile one.
The midyear Day Designers went on sale yesterday and if you’re still on the fence about whether or not a Day Designer is for you, let me give you 5 reasons why I love my Day Designer.
1. I CAN PLAN MY WHOLE DAY ON ONE SHEET
If you aren’t familiar with the Day Designer layout, every weekday has its own page (weekends share a page). The left side is a typical planner with your hours (5am-9pm) to plan meetings and events. The right side is a space to write to-dos. Because they’re together, I can effectively see what events I need to attend and plan my tasks around those.
A Day Designer really works best when you really use it. Get a little messy. Take notes, write down anything and everything.
2. I LOVE THE SIZE
I know some may think the Day Designer is a little big (that’s what the mini is for), but since I use my planner constantly, I love that it’s big and sturdy enough to handle being stacked on things and being tossed into a bag. By the end of the year, my planner shows the love I’ve given it, but I love that it’s so well designed that it lasts the whole year.
3. THE YEARLY WORKSHEETS ARE FANTASTIC
At the beginning of your planner, you’ll find worksheets to help you map out your year. In late December, I took time to plan out what my goals would be for 2017. Day Designer has Heart Goals, where you help yourself, help everyone else, focus on attitude and academics, your resources and trade and your career. Now that I’m looking at these, I realize I’ve already passed a few personal goals for Q2 already (#progress).
4. THE LITTLE DETAILS
From the “Word of the Year” box on the front page of my planner to the gold foil tabs, the little details really add to the appeal. Every page also features a little inspirational quote, and I’ve found some of my favorite quotes from this planner.
5. THE DAILY GRATITUDE
The daily gratitude box at the bottom of each page might be my favorite thing in the planner. When I struggled with depression, I always found it easier to manage when I could find one good thing out of all the bad things during the day. One thing to have hope for, and the Day Designer allows me to document those little things I’m grateful for.
I also love the team of women that stand behind the Day Designer. Led by Whitney English, the team is full of smart women who balance it all. No doubt, I truly consider the Day Designer one of the biggest assets in my life and business.
