Things I’m Grateful For was a weekly series I co-hosted with Ashley from Hello Nature, where we discussed the little things we were grateful for throughout the week. Now that we’ve made it to Thanksgiving, I always want to take that time to be grateful for the things I do have.
It was just a few days ago that I celebrated my twenty-fifth birthday. Because my birthday is so close to the end of the year, combined with the holidays, I always feel like I spend the last 45 days of the year in reflection. Thanksgiving is one of those days – in fact, it’s the biggest day. Despite the struggles I have, I still have so much to feel blessed about.
This year, some of the things I’m grateful for are:
1. My Family
This one is big every year, but I have a loud, fun family. We drink, we play sports, and we tease each other endlessly but at the end of the day, there’s no other family I’d have. Not just my immediate family of my parents and siblings, but my extended family as some get married in the next year and my grandparents have let me live with them during a season of transition. Not sure what I’d do without my family.
2. My Jobs
I started the year off working at Apple in Austin and survived the big cut. I spent six months there and managed to obtain a job offer at another company before the end of my contract at Apple. Having that job lined up, knowing that I would still have something lined up? That was something I had never experienced before and the two weeks I had off in between, it felt nice to have that time off. I didn’t have the nagging feeling of “oh, shit, what’s next?”
3. New Friends
Both at Apple and my current job, I really had actual, in-real-life friends this year. I got my nails done with a friend from my current job this last weekend and I’m moving in with a friend from Apple in January. As someone who doesn’t have a lot of friends nearby in Austin, it feels good to bring people into my life. Which brings me to another point…
4. The boys brave enough to date me…
Before this year, it had been seven years since I went on a date. Nothing substantial has come out of any of these dates, but I’m meeting people and maybe something will happen in the future. The door on that is open a lot more than it was a year ago.
5. All the Usual Suspects, Too
Like books. Mostly books, the ones I write and read.
What are you grateful for this year?
