So I have a little secret – I’m leaving my job next week. It’s a contract position and I’ve come to the end of my contract. Not a big deal, except as of now, I have nothing else set in stone after. Since there may be a lapse in my work schedule for a few weeks, I thought it would be fun to share what I take to work with me every day. So, here’s a look at what’s in my bag, the work edition. When I find a new job, I might have to do another one of these.
1. My Laptop
I get an hour for lunch every day at work, so I often spend it outside writing. Just the other day, I got 1000 words done during lunch in twenty-five minutes, so taking the laptop is worth it for me. Sometimes on weekend, I’ll bring it out during slow periods if I want to work on blog stuff. If I feel like I need it, I’ll bring my charger but usually, I don’t take it because I don’t spend all that much time on it.
2. My Planner
I take my Day Designer with me because I lean on that for my life. If someone wants to do drinks on a night, I may check my calendar for it. Mainly I use it to write down any tasks that pop in my head during the day. I’ll leave it open next to me. At work, I’ve got a jar of pens that I use because I’m a color-coder. Instead of taking one set of pens back and forth, I just have one at my desk at work and one at my desk at home.
I think I’m less likely to lose pens that way. What do you take to work every day? Click To Tweet
3. My Current Read
Right now I’m reading I’ll Be Gone in the Dark. Most of my reading is done in three or four-minute chunks at the end of a call. At work, we have calls scheduled at the top and bottom of the hour. So if my call ends at 10:23, I have a few minutes to read. Since it has been so busy, I’ve been a little slow on my reading lately.
4. My Lunch
A girl’s gotta eat, right? I take a lunch almost every day because eating out is expensive.
5. A Notepad
I have this in here but I don’t often use it. If I do, it’s to make a list of things that pop in my head related to books or blog ideas. Things that don’t necessarily fit in the planner itself.
6. Chapstick, Headphones, and a Compact Mirror
I wear this stuff like lipstick, except it doesn’t make my lips a pretty color. The headphones are for those moments between calls where I clearly don’t want to be talked to. And the compact mirror, that’s for my teeth! I want to make sure I don’t have food in my teeth, because that’s embarrassing.
7. My Wallet and Keys
I need to get to work somehow, right?
I got my backpack (I don’t really carry a purse) at Target and this thing has so many pockets I can store stuff in. I try to be careful that I don’t put too much in the bag, because I do want to be able to carry it out of the building.
Tell me, what do you take to work every single day?
